My name is Stephanie Minutillo and I am a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am majoring in Advertising and PR in the school of Journalism with a concentration in studio art. I was born in Wayne, NJ and moved with my family to Wilmington, NC about six years ago.
Although I sound confident in my career path, I must admit that it took three semesters of discovering my strengths and choosing between passions to get to this point. I've gone from high school aspirations of mastering green architecture to toying with ideas of business and environmental law to finally settling on journalism as my main focus, at least for my undergrad. Coming to Carolina, one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation, it was difficult to pick a major and stick with it. At the end of my first year, I found myself at a crossroads between two completely different career paths: AD/PR with a studio art concentration or a geology major with a minor in environmental law.
Even though I may have stripped the word "environmental" from my major, I definitely have not become any less of a tree hugger. I'm that girl would makes sure every light is off and every straightener is unplugged before I leave for class. And if I have a plastic bottle, you can count on me carrying it around all day just to find a recycling bin to toss it in. One day I hope to use the various communication and story-telling skills I will undoubtfully learn in the J-School for the betterment of the environment worldwide.
